A paediatric hearing assessment is conducted for children 4 years of age and older. Results will be reported to the child’s GP on the same day.
Since audiometry is a subjective test, children need to be carefully taught the testing routine before useful results can be obtained.
For this age group, we still use head phones and pure tones presented using a similar method to adults, however, rather than responding using a button, we will often use a more engaging response technique known as Play Audiometry.
Play audiometry involves the child placing a coloured peg into a board after hearing a test tone through the headphones. The test usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
Careful observation of the child is important to ensure a consistent response state and reliable results.
